Dwayne Johnson announces the remake in a video from Hawaii
Bob Iger shared a recorded message from Johnson during Disney's annual shareholder meeting webcast. Johnson said a live-action Moana was in development, with himself producing through Seven Bucks Productions and Auli'i Cravalho as an executive producer.
Why it matters
The project was introduced by its star rather than by the studio, and framed around Johnson's Polynesian heritage from the first day.
