Methodology

Editorial standards

How Hypespool labels evidence, handles metrics and sources, and corrects mistakes.

Our credibility is the product. These standards apply to every dossier, timeline entry and article.

Evidence labels

Every factual claim on a timeline or in a key-numbers block carries one label. Each label has a glyph as well as text, so it never relies on colour.

LabelMeaningMinimum bar
ConfirmedVerified by a primary source, or by two independent credible outletsPrimary source, or two independent outlets
ReportedReported by one credible outlet, not independently confirmedOne credible outlet
ObservedDocumented by our team directly (posts, screenshots, in person), or organic fan activityArchived evidence we hold
UnverifiedCirculating, but the evidence is weak, contradictory or social-onlyPublished only with explicit caveats

Separately, Analysis marks our own interpretation, such as how a campaign was built or why something worked. It is always set apart from reported fact.

Metrics

Every number states its value, unit, currency, basis and as-of date, plus its source and label.

  • Gross and net box office are never mixed or compared without saying so.
  • Local currency and USD are never mixed without labels.
  • Platform and studio figures (views, reach, media value) are marked as platform- or studio-reported. We do not present them as independently audited.
  • Our counts (such as a campaign's activity mix) are labelled as our count, not studio spend.

Sources

  • We prefer primary sources: official releases, newsroom posts, agency case studies, research firm reports and on-record interviews.
  • Aggregators and auto-translated reposts are leads, not sources. We trace them to the original; until we do, anything resting on them is Unverified.
  • Every source is stored with publisher, date, URL, language and an archived snapshot taken when we cite it. Non-English sources are welcome, and we note when we translate.

Timelines

Each campaign has a Day 0 anchor, usually the film's primary US wide release. Every activity's T-offset is computed from that date. Launch covers T−7 to T+7; pre-launch is everything before and post-launch everything after. Controversies sit on the timeline like any other activity.

Corrections

Dossiers are living documents. Each shows when it was last updated and keeps a public changelog. Material errors are corrected with a visible note, never silently. Every dossier also lists what we still cannot verify.

Submit a source

If you can confirm, correct or add to a timeline, we want to hear from you. Email contact@hypespool.com with the page, what is wrong or missing, and a link to your source. Corrections are logged in each dossier's changelog. See our Terms for how we use submissions.

Independence

Editorial is separate from any sponsorship or partnership. We do not accept payment from studios or brands for coverage of their campaigns. Interviews are on the record by default, and interviewees may check their own quotes for accuracy but do not approve the piece.
