Fortnite shows the first 10 minutes of the film free, three days early
Epic, Disney and Lucasfilm opened a Watch Party Island built around Nevarro, with a 10-minute sneak peek, quests from IG-11 and a message from Favreau. Favreau returned on 26 May for a live Q&A in the island's amphitheatre.
Why it matters
The film's opening played inside a game before it played in cinemas, for an audience much younger than Star Wars' core.

The film opened on 20 May in markets including France, Sweden, Norway, Finland and the Philippines, on 21 May in Mexico and on 22 May in the US and UK. South Korea, the one major market not day-and-date, followed on 27 May.

Release-day merchandise wave, led by Hasbro's Ultimate Grogu
Disney Consumer Products launched a wave with a LEGO N-1 Starfighter, Hasbro's Ultimate Grogu animatronic and Funko figures, plus adidas, Fossil and Hanna Andersson lines. AMC gave out Star Wars Unlimited promo cards to early audiences on 21-22 May.
