IMAX 70mm opening-weekend tickets go on sale a year early and sell out
At midnight ET, exactly one year before release, IMAX opened sales for one 70mm showtime per site over opening weekend at about 26 locations worldwide. About 95% of seats sold within an hour. Resale listings reached $300 to $400 against a $25 to $28 ticket.
Why it matters
Selling tickets to a film still being shot turned the format itself into the scarce product, and the sell-out became the year's first headline about the film.
